The UN Secretary-General has called on all parties to “stop the dangerous cycle of retaliation” in the Middle East. Antonio Guterres made a statement following reports of alleged Israeli strikes on Iranian territory.

“The Secretary General condemns any acts of retaliation and calls on the international community to work together to prevent developments that could lead to devastating consequences for the entire region and beyond,” the Secretary General said in a statement.

Also on Friday, the head of the UN International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Mariano Grossi, called on all parties to show restraint.

“The IAEA can confirm that Iran’s nuclear facilities were not damaged,” the International Atomic Energy Agency said in a tweet following media reports of possible drone strikes in the Iranian province of Isfahan , where nuclear facilities and military garrisons are located.

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) also called on all parties to “take measures to de-escalate the situation as quickly as possible.”

“We call on third states, especially those with influence in the region, to do everything possible to prevent further deterioration of an already extremely fragile situation,” said OHCHR spokesman Jeremy Lawrence .
