Clashes in Yemen
At least 46,000 people have been forced to flee their homes as clashes between Houthis and government forces resumed last week in southwestern Yemen. Such data is provided by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). At the same time, the number of displaced people is growing every hour, the IOM clarifies. Scores of people were reported to have fled the town of Moha last night, after the strategic Red Sea port fell under Houthi control earlier this week.
Strikes on Ukraine
According to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, fighting in front-line areas of Ukraine continues to kill and injure civilians, including including children. The largest number of victims was recorded in Pavlograd, where a shopping center was struck last night. UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Ukraine Matthias Schmale stressed that people should be able to safely go about their daily activities. The UN, together with its partners, is providing support to victims and emergency workers.
Anniversary of the September 11 attacks
The UN Security Council met to mark the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks. Members of the Council honored the memory of the victims with a minute of silence. Speaking at the meeting, the head of the Executive Directorate of the Counter-Terrorism Committee of the Security Council, Natalya German, stated the need for international cooperation in the fight against terrorism, which should be based on the principles of respect for human rights and the rule of law.
