The United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) sent a rapid reaction force to the area to provide security. The head of UNMISS and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for South Sudan, Anita Kiki Gbeho, said that “such acts of violence” against mission personnel are “unacceptable.” she.
The mission reminds that attacks against UN peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law.
“I call on the competent authorities to conduct a thorough and prompt investigation to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice,” Gbeho added.
