According to Ukrainian authorities, at least 17 civilians were killed in the attack and another 44 were injured. Several people were killed on a railway platform in the Brovary district of the Kyiv region.
Part of a dangerous trend
“The latest attack was part of a series of large-scale attacks on Kyiv this summer that had devastating consequences for civilians,” said mission head Danielle Bell. “The increasing use of ballistic missiles and other long-range weapons in populated areas is leading to an increase in civilian casualties and causing widespread damage to homes, businesses and other civilian infrastructure.”According to the mission, in the first six months of 2026, 1,396 civilians of Ukraine were killed, and another 7,978 were injured. This is 37 percent more than in the same period in 2025, and 114 percent higher than in 2024.
The increase in the number of casualties, mission experts note, is mainly associated with long-range attacks by the Russian Federation, which predominantly affected urban areas located far from the line frontline. From January to June, the number of civilian casualties as a result of the use of long-range weapons, including missiles and drones, increased by 60 percent compared to the same period last year.
Specialists of the Monitoring Mission will visit the sites of attacks to verify information on the number of deaths, injuries and the scale of damage damage.
Large attacks
According to the UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Ukraine Matthias Schmale, August began with two large-scale night attacks. “As the attacks continue, more families are losing loved ones, leaving their homes or trying to rebuild their lives,” Schmale said.
He recalled that international humanitarian aid the law requires the parties to the conflict to take all necessary precautions to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure.
