Humanitarian situation in Ukraine

Last year, the Ukrainian Humanitarian Fund awarded more than $180 million to about 50 institutions in Ukraine. These grants have enabled aid workers to provide life-saving assistance to approximately 3.2 million people.

Attacks on humanitarian workers in Gaza

The UN strongly condemns the killing of seven aid workers from World Central Kitchen in Israeli airstrikes in Gaza. UN Humanitarian Coordinator in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) Jamie McGoldrick reiterated his call on all parties to the conflict to respect international law, which prohibits attacks on humanitarian personnel. Speaking about the destruction of Al Shifa Hospital after a two-week siege by the Israeli military, World Health Organization (WHO) spokeswoman Margaret Harris said the facility, which will no longer function, was the “heart” of the enclave’s health system.

Occupation of Ukraine

Two years after the full-scale Russian invasion, the world has become indifferent to the war in Ukraine, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk said in Geneva on Tuesday. He recalled that a human tragedy unfolds in Ukraine every day and called on Russia to end the occupation. The High Commissioner recalled that 2024 marks the 10th anniversary of the occupation of Crimea. Citing a report by the Office of Human Rights, Turk pointed to numerous human rights violations that have occurred there over the past decade and foreshadowed what is now being seen in the rest of the occupied territory of Ukraine. According to the Office, Russian forces committed massive violations of international standards in the field of human rights and humanitarian law.
