The world is rapidly moving towards multipolarity, and it is this process that can become the basis for a more equitable system of global governance and international relations. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated this at the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in Bishkek.
The UN chief stressed that the current global architecture – including the UN itself and the Bretton Woods system – requires reform in a changing world. The representation and influence of developing countries in international institutions needs to be expanded, Guterres believes.

He stressed the need for dialogue while fully respecting international law, including freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
The Secretary-General reaffirmed the UN’s readiness to support all diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving a long-term settlement.

International security, including settlement in the Middle East, is one of the main areas for strengthening cooperation between the UN and the SCO, outlined by Guterres in his speech in Bishkek to world leaders.
“It is necessary to observe a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and fully implement a comprehensive plan to resolve the conflict,” the UN chief said.
