The parties in Yemen have agreed to release more than 1,600 people detained in connection with the conflict in the country. The agreement was the result of 14 weeks of intensive negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations in the Jordanian capital Amman. As next steps, the parties agreed to hold a new round of negotiations on the further release of detainees and organize visits to places of detention. on Thursday and Friday in Washington, will help achieve a lasting ceasefire and pave the way for lasting peace. Meanwhile, the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) is recording significant air and military activity in its area of responsibility. Despite unstable situation, UNIFIL continues to support humanitarian operations together with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). OCHA reports that the number of internally displaced people is again rising throughout the country.

Children of Haiti

The UN Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict, Vanessa Fraser, is visiting Haiti this week. She will meet with representatives of the authorities, the diplomatic community, UN agencies, civil society and other partners to strengthen the child protection system and identify priority areas for work. The UN emphasizes that the scale of violence and the deteriorating situation of children in Haiti are of grave concern.
