UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomes the announcement by the United States to extend the ceasefire. This is an important step towards de-escalating the conflict and creating the necessary space for diplomacy and confidence-building between the United States and Iran, the UN chief noted.
“We call on all parties to take advantage of these favorable dynamics, refrain from actions that could undermine the ceasefire, and constructively engage in negotiations with a view to achieving a stable and lasting settlement,” the Secretary-General said in a statement.
The UN chief also fully supports Pakistan’s efforts to facilitate the negotiations. Guterres hopes that these efforts will “contribute to the creation of conditions favorable to a comprehensive and lasting resolution of the conflict.”
