UN Spokesman Stephane Dujarric. UN Spokesman Answers Question on Updating Russia’s Nuclear Doctrine Peace and Security
All nuclear-weapon states are responsible for fully implementing their nuclear disarmament obligations under relevant treaties. This was stated today at a briefing in New York, by the UN Secretary-General’s press secretary Stephane Dujarric, in response to a journalist’s question about updating Russia’s nuclear doctrine.
“We want to avoid any situation where the [relevant] rhetoric is intensified and, what is even more dangerous, the risk of miscalculation with respect to these destructive weapons increases,” he said.
The UN press secretary was also asked about the strikes by American long-range ATACMS missiles on a facility in the Bryansk region, which were reported by a number of media outlets, and in this context, about a possible escalation of the conflict.
According to Dujarric, the UN is concerned about the escalation. He recalled the statement made yesterday by his deputy for political affairs Rosemary DiCarlo on behalf of the UN chief in the Security Council. The press secretary emphasized that the UN calls for peace on the basis of the UN Charter and General Assembly resolutions.
