View of Beirut, Lebanon. UN Concerned by Israeli Strikes on Lebanese Capital Peace and Security
The UN has expressed grave concern over the strikes carried out by the Israel Defense Forces on the densely populated southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon, on the evening of July 30, which killed dozens of civilians. This was stated by UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric.
According to his statement, pending further information on the circumstances of the incident, the UN again calls on the parties to exercise maximum restraint and avoid further escalation.
“All parties must abide by their obligations under international law,” Dujarric said.
According to the UN spokesman, the parties must urgently reaffirm their commitment to the full implementation of Security Council resolution 1701 (2006) and immediately return to a cessation of hostilities.
