UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced this at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The UN chief stressed that the current global architecture – including the United Nations itself – requires reform. The representation and influence of developing countries in international institutions needs to be expanded, Guterres said.
Attack on Kyiv
For the sixth night in a row, Kyiv has been subjected to missile and drone attacks by the Russian Armed Forces, UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Ukraine Matthias Schmale said on Tuesday. According to available data, at least 12 civilians were killed in Kyiv and the Kyiv region, and another 18 were injured. The strikes targeted railway infrastructure, resulting in the death of railway workers.
Special Coordinator in Gaza
Acting UN Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process Ramiz Alakbarov today began a three-day visit to the strip Gaza. In Gaza City, he visited a field hospital, and earlier, in Khan Yunis, he visited a spontaneous camp for displaced people, which is at risk of serious flooding with the onset of the rainy season. Alakbarov said preparations for the season were an urgent priority and called on donors to increase aid and for Israeli authorities to ease restrictions on humanitarian operations. Rescue operations continue. The death toll has exceeded a thousand people, about 4 thousand are missing. According to the Chinese authorities, 16 people have died in this country, and another 546 are listed as missing. One of the priorities is restoring access to medical services, the World Health Organization notes. Six medical facilities were damaged or destroyed, and two more remain inaccessible.
