The UN Secretary-General strongly condemned the large-scale attack by Russian military forces using missiles and drones on Kyiv and other cities of Ukraine.
According to data announced at a briefing in New York by the UN spokesman, the strike led to the death and injury of dozens of civilians and caused serious damage to civilian infrastructure. Stephane Dujarric called the incident “another tragic example of the alarming trend of increasing attacks on densely populated areas.”
The spokesman said the UN chief is deeply concerned about the ongoing escalation of the conflict, including strikes that affect the territory of the Russian Federation. He stressed that attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure are a direct violation of international humanitarian law, no matter where they occur, and must stop immediately.
The Secretary-General, according to Dujarric, reiterated his call for urgent de-escalation, which must lead to a complete, immediate and unconditional ceasefire, as well as a just, sustainable and comprehensive peace in accordance with international law, the UN Charter and relevant United Nations resolutions.
