The day before, as a result of an attack in the Kherson region of Ukraine, two employees of the non-governmental organization  Norwegian People’s Aid were killed, and four more were injured. “We condemn this attack on humanitarian workers,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said at a daily briefing in New York. 

Attacks on humanitarian workers 

He drew attention to the words of UN Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher, who noted that “humanitarian workers understand the risks of their work, but accepting the risk does not mean agreeing to be the target of attack.” In his social media post, Fletcher stressed that civilians, including aid workers, must be protected and international humanitarian law must be respected. attacks

UN Humanitarian Coordinator for Ukraine Matthias Schmale also expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the victims and stressed that humanitarian workers should never be put in danger while carrying out their vital work.

According to the UN, since the beginning of the year, at least six humanitarian workers have been killed in Ukraine, including five while on duty, and another 36 people were injured. The largest number of incidents affecting humanitarian workers was recorded in the Kherson region.

Death of civilians 

Meanwhile, according to local authorities, as a result of attacks throughout Ukraine over the past 24 hours, at least 12 civilians were killed, and almost 90 more injured, including medical workers and children.

In Kherson, authorities said several civilians were killed and more than 20 people were injured, including five hospital employees who were injured in a strike on a medical facility. In Zaporozhye, two people were killed and 27 more were injured, including three children, as a result of attacks by guided bombs and drones.

As of today, in certain areas of five front-line regions – Sumy, Donetsk, Kharkov, Kherson and Zaporozhye – there is still no power supply due to the attacks, the Ministry of Energy reported Ukraine.

UN Assistance

Despite the difficult security situation, humanitarian organizations continue to work. In the first quarter of 2026 alone, the UN and partners assisted more than 980,000 people affected by attacks by providing temporary shelter, hot meals, cash assistance and other life-saving support, and helping to restore basic services to those in need.
