Since March 19, 2026, at least 56 people have been executed on national security-related charges, according to the UN Human Rights Office. The High Commissioner noted that more than 100 others were at risk of execution on similar charges. He also pointed to the potential for serious violations of the right to a fair trial.

El Niño Event

Due to the intensifying climate phenomenon El Niño, almost 50 million more people in the most vulnerable regions of the planet could face acute hunger in the coming months. The UN agency is ramping up operations in eight countries where people already live in conditions of poverty, conflict, unemployment and persistent climate shocks. The priority is to prepare for predicted floods, droughts and storms.
