Escalation of violence in the West Bank
The situation in the West Bank is rapidly deteriorating, the UN Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Ramiz Alakbarov, warned about this, speaking at a meeting of the Security Council on Tuesday. According to him, recent days have been marked by a sharp increase in violence, which poses the threat of wider regional escalation. Alakbarov stressed that the implementation of Trump’s plan to end the conflict in Gaza remains a key condition for stabilization.
Forest fires in Europe
Against the backdrop of large-scale forest fires in France and Spain, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Simon Steel called on the world community to quickly abandon the use of coal, oil and gas, move to renewable energy sources and protect the population of those countries and regions where the effects of global warming are felt particularly acutely. Steele also noted that temperatures in North Africa are approaching a record high of 49 degrees Celsius. More than a million people died from these diseases in 2024 alone. The World Health Organization recalled this on the occasion of World Hepatitis Day, which is celebrated on July 28. Experts emphasize that the necessary prevention, diagnostic and treatment tools already exist, and call for universal access.
Global Campaign for Refugees
On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees, the UN announced the launch of a new global campaign. The UN Refugee Agency is calling on the international community to help protect those who have been forced to flee their homes to escape war, violence or persecution. Angelina Jolie, Cate Blanchett, Ben Stiller, Malala Yousafzai and other famous personalities joined the initiative.
