The United Nations and its humanitarian partners continue to provide assistance to people in Ukraine affected by the ongoing fighting. On Friday, a convoy delivered vital supplies to one of the front-line communities in the Kherson region.
Aid delivery
As reported by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the assistance included six tons of humanitarian supplies, including medicines, kits of essential items for women, clothing and hygiene kits.
According to OCHA, since the beginning of the year, the UN and partner organizations have sent ten humanitarian convoys to the front-line areas of the Kherson region. Almost 10 thousand people received assistance.
Deaths and injuries of civilians
Meanwhile, the situation of the country’s civilian population continues to deteriorate. Over the past 24 hours, as a result of attacks and hostilities in various regions of Ukraine, several civilians have been killed and more than 100 people have been injured. Significant damage was caused to civilian infrastructure.
The greatest impact occurred in the Dnepropetrovsk and Zaporozhye regions, where, according to available data, the number of civilian casualties exceeded 60 people. Numerous residential buildings and a medical center were damaged. Humanitarian organizations provide psychological assistance to victims, provide materials for emergency housing repairs and other emergency support.
Funding Gap
Despite the ongoing funding gap, last year the Ukrainian Humanitarian Fund was able to allocate over $200 million to support Ukrainians. About 660 thousand people across the country received assistance, including residents of front-line areas who needed urgent evacuation. About 70 percent of the fund’s funds were allocated to Ukrainian humanitarian organizations.
