Over the past three days, ongoing missile and drone attacks have resulted in numerous civilian casualties in Ukraine and damage to civilian infrastructure.
As UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric said during a briefing in New York on Monday, a civilian bus transporting children and at least two humanitarian vehicles were hit in the Dnipropetrovsk region, including a bus that the World Health Organization handed over to the Ukrainian Ministry of Health for vaccination. more than 20 people died. The shelling led to widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure. The Kherson, Kharkov and Odessa regions were hit hardest.
UN staff and United Nations humanitarian partners are providing emergency assistance to the population, providing psychosocial support, hot meals and materials for housing repairs.
From the frontline areas of the Donetsk region on weekends – with the support of UN humanitarian partners and local authorities – more than 900 civilians were evacuated, including more than 180 children.
The UN also received reports that a Ukrainian drone hit a multi-storey residential building in Moscow.
As reported by Stephane Dujarric, UN chief Antonio Guterres condemns attacks on civilians and civilian infrastructure, no matter where they occur, and calls for “a complete, immediate and unconditional ceasefire that must lead to a just, comprehensive and sustainable peace” – in accordance with the UN Charter, international law and UN resolutions.
