The UN Deputy Special Envoy for Syria, Najat Roshdi, strongly condemned the Israeli invasion of Syrian territory in the suburbs of Damascus, which reportedly led to the death of civilians.
The invasion and accompanying air strikes reportedly caused a massive displacement of families from the town of Beit Jinn. People have been forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in neighboring areas. Roshdi stressed that such actions are a “serious and unacceptable violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Syria” and will further destabilize the already fragile situation in the region. The United Nations, she said, remains firmly committed to the principles of sovereignty, unity, independence and territorial integrity Syria. The Deputy Special Envoy called for an immediate end to such violations and recalled the need for full compliance with the 1974 Separation of Forces Agreement.
