Global efforts to combat HIV are facing their biggest crisis in decades. This is stated in a new report from the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). The paper examines the wide-ranging consequences of cuts in international funding. Low- and middle-income countries, where HIV is most prevalent, have been hit first. External assistance to health systems fell by 30–40 percent in 2025 compared to 2023, which has already led to serious disruptions in their work.
