UN humanitarian aid in eastern Ukraine. UN agencies continue to provide assistance to victims in eastern and southeastern Ukraine Humanitarian aid
UN humanitarian agencies continue to provide assistance to victims in the east and southeast of Ukraine. In the city of Pokrovsk in the Donetsk region, where a transit point for displaced persons was shelled the day before, humanitarian workers are distributing materials for emergency repairs and providing psychosocial and other types of assistance.
Also in the Donetsk region, Matthias Schmale, the new UN Humanitarian Coordinator in the country, today led a convoy that delivered aid to the city of Kurakhovo in the Pokrovsky district.
As UN Press Secretary Stephane Dujarric clarified at a briefing in New York, about 400 families affected by the conflict received medicines, hygiene items and solar-powered lamps. It was the ninth humanitarian mission to the Donetsk region this year.
“In the town of Malokaterynivka in the Zaporizhia region, our humanitarian partners report that a busy cafe full of children and houses where about 50 families live were hit by artillery shelling,” Dujarric said.
“Humanitarian workers have mobilized aid for the victims – emergency repair materials and hygiene items,” he added.
