Kazakhstan has joined the UN global awareness campaign #MakeASafetyStatement – an international initiative supported by famous representatives of the worlds of sports, cinema and music and aimed at promoting safe behavior on the roads and reducing the number of deaths and injuries from road accidents.
Since April 3, 2026, billboards and posters for the campaign have been placed in Astana and Almaty, which features Novak Djokovic, Jean Reno, Michael Fassbender and Michelle Yeoh.
The campaign has already covered more than 80 countries and about a thousand cities around the world. By joining the initiative, Kazakhstan becomes part of a large-scale international effort to promote safe behavior on the roads.

The campaign is led by the Office of the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety in collaboration with JCDecaux and with the support of Saatchi. She calls on public figures, decision-makers and activists to make clear commitments to road safety. The campaign promotes simple, effective and evidence-based safe behaviours, and serves as a call to action to reduce key risk factors and create safer, inclusive and greener urban environments.
“Road crashes in Kazakhstan continue to claim more than two thousand lives each year, affecting families and communities across the country,” said the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy for Road Safety, Jean Todt. “Despite the progress that has been made—decreasing fatalities and strict seat belt requirements—problems such as speeding and drink-driving remain. As mobility increases, sustained efforts are needed to ensure the safety of all road users.”

Road traffic injuries remain a serious global problem. Every year, about 1.19 million people die as a result of road accidents worldwide. Road crashes remain the leading cause of death among young people. In Kazakhstan, according to the country’s authorities, 36,146 road accidents were registered in 2025, of which 1,796 were fatal.
International celebrities supporting the initiative include Didier Drogba, Patrick Dempsey, Charles Leclerc, Marc Marquez, Kylie Minogue and Youssou N’Dour. A total of 16 international stars and Olympic champions are helping to spread the campaign’s messages in the six official UN languages.
