As part of a joint project by United24 and UNDP, 18 apartment buildings in the Kyiv region are being renovated. Ukraine: UN helps restore apartment buildings in Irpen Economic development
Two eight-story apartment buildings in Irpen, Kyiv region of Ukraine, that were severely damaged by artillery shelling during the initial phase of Russia’s full-scale invasion, have been fully restored thanks to the state fundraising platform United24 and technical assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
A total of 60 apartments were damaged in the two buildings, 20 of which required complete restoration. The apartments now have new doors, windows and flooring, and the interiors are finished with modern, eco-friendly materials. In addition, the facades and roofs of the buildings were repaired, and utility systems were restored.
The six-month, $787,000 reconstruction project has allowed 300 residents to return to safe and comfortable homes.
UNDP Ukraine Representative Igor Kistenev-Kavkazsky noted that the project is an example of the agency’s commitment to restoring normal living conditions where possible. “In addition to reviving the physical infrastructure, we are laying the foundation for sustainable development and stability,” he said. “By using modern, environmentally friendly materials, we not only improve living conditions, but also contribute to the long-term sustainability of communities.”
The head of the Kyiv regional administration, Ruslan Kravchenko, expressed gratitude to the partners for their systematic support in the restoration of the Kyiv region. “Each renovated building brings us closer to returning to normal life,” he emphasized. – We are deeply grateful to United24, the government and UNDP not only for restoring the infrastructure, but also for creating spaces where people can rebuild a comfortable and decent life.”
The initiative is part of the Restore Ukraine program, financed through the United24 crowdsourcing platform. As part of this project, 18 apartment buildings in the Kyiv region are being renovated, including in the cities of Irpen, Borodyanka, Gostomel, as well as in the villages of Buzova and Milya.
Restoration work has already been completed at six sites. In total, the initiative plans to restore homes for more than four thousand residents of the Kyiv region. UNDP provides technical expertise and transparency of the entire process.
