UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine Denise Brown condemned the attacks on Kharkiv and the Kharkiv region, which resulted in the deaths and injuries of civilians.

“I am deeply alarmed by the news from Kharkov and the Kharkov region, where attacks by Russian armed forces have again killed civilians, injured people, and destroyed homes, businesses, transport and civilian infrastructure,” the humanitarian coordinator said in a statement. “My thoughts are with the families who lost their loved ones as a result of these attacks.” 

Denise Brown recalled that the “horrific attacks” in the Kharkov region continue without It’s been almost two weeks now. 

“Thousands of civilians, including the elderly and people with disabilities, have been forced to flee, leaving their entire lives behind,” the statement says. “People who sought safety are once again seeing destroyed homes, the wounded and the dead.”

UN partners and humanitarian organizations are supporting evacuees and those affected by the strikes with urgent assistance, she recalled, but, nevertheless, the war in Ukraine continues to destroy people’s lives and exacerbate the country’s humanitarian needs. 

“International humanitarian law is clear about that the safety of civilians and civilian infrastructure must be guaranteed,” Denise Brown emphasized.
