UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned large-scale Russian strikes on energy and critical civilian infrastructure across Ukraine last night.
The strikes reportedly caused major damage, power outages and civilian casualties.
According to media reports, about 120 missiles and 90 drones were launched at Ukraine.
“Attacks on energy infrastructure will only worsen the suffering of civilians as winter weather approaches. “The targeting of civilians and civilian objects is prohibited under international humanitarian law,” said a statement issued on behalf of the UN chief by his spokesman Stephane Dujarric.
Any such attacks are unacceptable and must stop immediately, the statement emphasized.
