New attacks on Kyiv

The document, proposed by the delegations of Algeria, Guyana, Malta, Mozambique, the Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, Switzerland, Ecuador and Japan, calls for the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, as well as for the expansion of aid supplies to Gaza. The resolution was supported by 14 countries, the United States abstained. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres welcomed the adoption of the document and said that the long-awaited resolution must be implemented.

Solidarity visit

Speaking in Jordan, the second stop of the UN Secretary General’s Ramadan Middle East trip, Antonio Guterres again called for a permanent cessation of hostilities in Gaza and the release of all remaining Israeli hostages . He vowed to continue to push for “the removal of all obstacles to life-saving aid” reaching the Gaza Strip. The UN chief’s appeal came against the backdrop of a dire humanitarian situation in the enclave, especially in its northern regions. According to Guterres, nothing justifies the horrific Hamas attacks on Israel on October 7. It is also impossible to justify the collective punishment of the Palestinian people.

UN experts condemned the terrorist attack in Crocus City Hall

Independent UN experts condemned the terrorist attack at the Crocus City Hall concert hall, which reportedly killed more than 130 people and injured more than 180 more. The ISIS-Khorasan organization, included in the sanctions list of the UN Security Council, claimed responsibility for the attack. Special Rapporteur on Counterterrorism Ben Saul and Special Rapporteur on Russia Mariana Katsarova called on Russian authorities to ensure fair trials for all suspects. They noted that some of the detainees who appeared before the Basmanny Court in Moscow showed signs of ill-treatment.
