“Nuclear testing should not be allowed under any circumstances.” This was stated by UN Deputy Press Secretary Farhan Haq, commenting at the request of a journalist on Thursday on US President Donald Trump’s statement of his intention to resume nuclear testing for the first time in decades.

“The Secretary-General has repeatedly stated that the current nuclear risks are already extremely high, and any actions that could lead to miscalculation or escalation with catastrophic consequences must be excluded,” the UN representative emphasized.

Referring to the head of the United Nations, he stated the need to remember the devastating consequences of more than two thousand nuclear tests conducted in recent years 80 years.

“Nuclear testing should not be allowed under any circumstances,” added Haque, referring to the position of the United Nations.

The Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty was adopted by the General Assembly on September 10, 1996 and opened for signature by all states on September 24, 1996 year. It has not yet entered into force, since it has not been ratified by all states listed in Annex 2 to the document. Among those who have not ratified the Treaty are Russia and the United States.
