UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres welcomed the signing of the Washington Peace Accords between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda through the mediation of the United States of America.
He congratulated Presidents Felix Tshisekedi and Paul Kagame on this important milestone and praised the efforts of President Donald Trump.
“The Secretary-General emphasized that these agreements represent a critical step towards restoring trust between the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rwanda and advancing efforts to achieve lasting peace in the east of the Democratic Republic of the Congo,” it said in a statement delivered on behalf of the UN chief by his spokesman Stephane Dujarric.
The UN chief also welcomed the significant progress made in both the Doha and African Union processes. He called on all parties to comply with their commitments, including compliance with the ceasefire called for in Security Council resolution 2773 (2025).
