The situation in Gaza and the West Bank

Several people were injured in incidents involving Israeli forces, settlers and Palestinians in the West Bank over the weekend, according to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs. Meanwhile, Israeli strikes continue in Gaza, killing civilians. Aid agencies also warn that preparations for the upcoming rainy season are hampered by lack of funding and other restrictions. Less than 40 percent of the $4 billion needed for relief efforts in Gaza and the West Bank has been secured this year.

Escalation in Lebanon

The UN once again called on the parties to exercise maximum restraint, respect the terms of the ceasefire agreement and continue dialogue to achieve a lasting solution in accordance with resolution 1701, including through ongoing direct negotiations in a trilateral format. is forcing more and more people to leave their homes, the UN warns. The escalation is also affecting humanitarian operations. In Al Mazroub, where a cholera outbreak continues, UN partners have been forced to suspend their activities. Thousands of people have fled their homes in several regions of Sudan in recent days, according to the International Organization for Migration. The UN once again called on the parties to protect civilians and civilian infrastructure, as well as to ensure unimpeded access for humanitarian assistance. 

Victims in Yemen

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed concern about the rapid increase in the number of civilian casualties amid the escalation of fighting in Yemen. Volker Türk called on the parties to immediately reduce tensions to prevent further deterioration of the situation. According to the Office of the High Commissioner, at least 17 civilians have been killed or injured in Ansar Allah attacks in government-controlled areas since August 6. Turk emphasized that all parties are obliged to comply with international humanitarian law.
