Stephane Dujarric, UN Spokesman. UN on Possible Trump-Putin Meeting: Dialogue on Ukraine Generally Welcomed UN
The United Nations has said it has no information about the details of a possible meeting between US President-elect Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin. In response to questions from journalists, UN Press Secretary Stephane Dujarric noted that while dialogue between the two countries is generally welcome, the organization has not received any specific information about such a meeting.
As for Ukraine, the press secretary emphasized that the UN position remains unchanged: the organization supports the resolution of the conflict in accordance with General Assembly resolutions, international law and the territorial integrity of Ukraine. Stephane Dujarric also added that the office of good offices of the UN Secretary-General is ready to support such a process if Ukraine and Russia make a corresponding request.
In addition, in response to questions from journalists, the press secretary, on behalf of the UN Secretary-General, expressed support for the International Criminal Court (ICC), noting that this body is not part of the Secretariat. The question comes as the US House of Representatives passes a bill that could impose sanctions on the court. Dujarric said the UN Secretary General considers the ICC “an essential element of the international justice system.”
