Abdallah Bouhabib, Lebanese Foreign Minister Lebanese Foreign Minister: “The crisis threatens the existence of our country” UN
Speaking during the general debate of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdallah Bouhabib said that his country is currently experiencing a crisis that threatens its existence.
He called on the international community to intervene, warning that otherwise the situation could spiral completely out of control.
“What we are experiencing in Lebanon now is a consequence of the lack of a long-term, sustainable solution,” he stressed. “The cause [of this crisis] is the occupation. And we would like to reiterate this. And we should not waste time trying to find other causes. As long as the occupation continues, there will be instability and war.”
On Monday, the Israel Defense Forces struck about 1,600 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon. According to the Lebanese Health Ministry, 569 people were killed in the country on Monday and Tuesday, including 50 children and 94 women. More than 1,800 people were injured. These figures were announced the day before at an emergency meeting of the Security Council dedicated to the situation in Lebanon.
“Isn’t Israel tired of the endless war since 1948? When will Israel be ready to provide a real opportunity for peace?” – said the head of the Lebanese Foreign Ministry.
