UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand, calling it “an important step towards reducing civilian suffering and ending hostilities.”
Secretary-General Spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said the agreement creates an enabling environment for progress towards long-term and sustainable peace in the region.
The statement also acknowledged the role of international partners: The Secretary-General commended the Malaysian Chairmanship of ASEAN, as well as China and the United States for their efforts in promoting a peaceful resolution situation.
The UN confirmed its readiness to provide further support to initiatives aimed at strengthening stability and preventing the escalation of tensions on the border between the two countries.
