Speaking at a briefing in Geneva, Representative of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Tamin Al-Khitan said that on Tuesday night Russia launched new large-scale attacks on the territory of Ukraine. During the attacks, missiles and loitering munitions were used, and the main target was the energy infrastructure in Kiev, as well as in the Odessa and Kiev regions.
According to preliminary data, at least seven people were killed in these regions, another 28 were injured, including four children. The strikes led to emergency power and heating outages in several areas.
Ukraine also launched long-range drone strikes in the Krasnodar Territory and Rostov region of Russia. Civilian deaths and injuries have been reported.
A UN Human Rights team is on the ground examining the impact of the strikes on Kyiv and Odessa and will provide further information in the coming days.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights reminds that the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure is a clear requirement of international humanitarian action right.
