A series of attacks over the weekend and Monday morning in several Ukrainian cities, including Kharkov, Dnipro, Odessa and Zaporozhye, killed at least twenty civilians and injured about a hundred more. Among the victims are children. UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric reported this with reference to local authorities.

Ongoing fighting is causing destruction in frontline communities, undermining the safety of civilians in major cities and damaging energy infrastructure, he said.

Safety of Aid Workers

Humanitarian workers and facilities have also been damaged in the recent spate of attacks. The day before, a drone strike damaged the building of a humanitarian organization in the city of Koryukovka in the Chernihiv region – fortunately, no one was injured. However, a few days earlier, on November 20, in the city of Zaporozhye, among the five civilians killed in an airstrike, an employee of a local non-governmental organization, who was not on duty at that moment, lost his life.

In total, since the beginning of September, three humanitarian workers have been killed – including two on duty – and 11 more have been injured.

Blackouts across the entire country

Military activities also undermine critical services, Dujarric continued. “[Ukrainian] authorities report that rolling power outages continue across the country due to cumulative damage to the energy infrastructure,” he said. – Some areas of the Kharkov region were left without electricity and water. Port and energy facilities in the Odessa region were also damaged, including the ferry terminal on the border with Romania. Ukraine.  

So, on November 21, a humanitarian convoy delivered basic necessities to the frontline zone in the Kherson region. Local residents received thermoses, solar lamps, chargers, as well as hygiene kits for people with disabilities and food.
