Large attacks and fighting caused civilian casualties and disrupted critical services across Ukraine over the weekend, UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said, citing the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
Over the past three days, at least 15 civilians have been killed and more than 70 injured. On the night of November 8, missile and drone strikes were recorded in the Chernigov, Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, Kharkiv, Kherson, Kirovograd, Nikolaev, Odessa, Poltava and Sumy regions, local authorities and humanitarian workers reported.
“These attacks also damaged energy and residential infrastructure in several regions, including Chernigov, Odessa and Poltava regions. They have led to power, heating and water outages, leaving vulnerable populations in even more dire straits in freezing temperatures,” Haq said.
Major cities, including Kyiv, Kharkov and Odessa, are experiencing severe power outages, with electricity flowing for only a few hours a day. Kharkov continues to experience interruptions in heating and water supply, and public electric transport has been partially suspended.
OCHA reports that UN agencies and their humanitarian partners quickly mobilized, providing materials for the construction of temporary shelters, blankets, hygiene products, hot drinks and psychosocial support in several areas, including the Dnieper, Kherson and Odessa region.
