The UN Secretary-General condemns last night’s drone and missile strikes by the Russian Federation, which were said to have “targeted Ukraine’s critical civilian and energy infrastructure” and reportedly caused civilian casualties, including the death of a child, and injured several others.
As UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric stressed at a briefing for journalists on Friday, these strikes led to widespread disruptions in the supply of electricity and water in several regions, including Kyiv, affecting millions of people ahead of the winter season.
“Attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure, wherever they occur, are prohibited by international law and must be stopped immediately,” Dujarric recalled.
The Secretary-General, he said, Once again urges a complete, immediate and unconditional ceasefire on Ukrainian territory, which will pave the way for a just, comprehensive and sustainable peace in accordance with the UN Charter, international law and UN resolutions.
