Today, following major restoration work carried out by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in cooperation with local authorities, a multi-story residential building was officially opened in the village of Borodyanka in the Kyiv region.
The building, located at 306 Tsentralnaya St., was severely damaged by fighting and a subsequent fire, making it uninhabitable. Comprehensive repairs have provided safe and modern living conditions for 150 people in 50 apartments.
The reconstruction included replacing roofs, doors, windows, balcony railings, and restoring basic utilities such as electricity, water, and sewerage.
“This reconstruction is more than just restoring the walls; “This is a revival of hope and stability for the community,” said UNDP representative Kistenev-Kavkazsky at the opening ceremony of the restored building.
He added that the restoration of houses in Ukrainian settlements is carried out using modern, environmentally friendly materials.
“The successful reconstruction of this house testifies to the power of teamwork and international partnership,” said Acting Head of the Kyiv Regional State Administration Mykola Kalashnik. He thanked UNDP and the UNITED24 platform, within the framework of which this project was financed, for their support.
“This initiative demonstrates the resilience and unity of our people and their partners. “The renovation of these houses means giving the heart back to our community, and we look forward to the next steps on the road to recovery,” said Oleksandr Sakharuk, head of the Borodyanka village council.
This project is part of a larger initiative to restore 18 residential buildings in the Kyiv region, aimed at improving the living conditions of more than 4,000 Ukrainians affected by the conflict.
