A devastated area of Gaza. Gaza: ‘Without a ceasefire, every new day will bring tragedy’ Peace and security
No one in Gaza has been safe since the war began in October 2023, said Philippe Lazzarini, Commissioner-General of the UNRWA. The UNRWA chief reiterated the need for a ceasefire in a statement published on Platform X on Thursday.
“We have received reports of another attack on al-Mawasi, in which dozens of people were killed and wounded,” he said, calling it “another reminder that there is no humanitarian zone, let alone a safe zone.” Al-Mawasi is an area previously designated by Israel as an evacuation route.

Lazzarini warned that “every day without a ceasefire will bring more tragedies.”
Restrictions on information
In addition, UNRWA recalled that the Israeli authorities continue to obstruct the work of international media and coverage of events in Gaza. The agency called for international journalists to be given access to the enclave to inform a global audience about what is happening.
Meanwhile, the UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) expressed concern over the Palestinian Authority’s suspension of the Al Jazeera news network in the occupied West Bank.
The Qatari channel was accused of broadcasting “inflammatory content” that “misleads and incites division,” international media reported, citing the official Palestinian news agency.
This comes amid a “disturbing trend” of suppression of freedom of opinion and expression in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, the OHCHR said, calling on the Palestinian Authority to “change course and respect its obligations under international right.”
