The UN Secretary-General expressed his deepest condolences over the plane crash that occurred yesterday in Muan Province, Republic of Korea. This is stated in a statement issued by the UN Press Service on behalf of António Guterres.

According to press reports, 179 people were killed when a Jeju Air Boeing 737-800 plane made an unsuccessful landing in Muan Province, South Korea. The airliner, en route from Bangkok, skidded off the runway and crashed into a fence.

The Secretary-General expressed his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and his solidarity with the people and Government of the Republic of Korea at this difficult time. “The Secretary-General is deeply saddened by the news of the plane crash in Muan Province, Republic of Korea, which has killed 179 people,” the document says. – He expresses his sincere condolences to the families of the victims and solidarity with the people and government of the Republic of Korea at this difficult time.”
