Food aid in Gaza. Amid Israeli military operation in northern Gaza, the enclave is running out of food Humanitarian aid
Gaza is running out of food and the enclave’s population is desperate, UN aid agencies said on Wednesday. “Fresh produce, eggs and meat are scarce, and prices for affordable food have reached record highs,” the UN World Food Programme (WFP) said on the X platform.
Famine in northern Gaza
“So far in November, every attempt by the UN to gain access for food and medical missions to besieged areas of northern Gaza to support the tens of thousands of people remaining there has either been rejected or met with difficulties,” the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said.
The IDF’s attacks on northern Gaza continue, with local residents who followed evacuation orders and fled from the town of Beit Hanoun to Gaza City now sheltering in damaged school buildings that could collapse at any moment. In October alone, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) recorded 64 attacks on schools, “most of which shelter displaced people.” According to OCHA, up to 130,000 people have fled northern Gaza.
Dozens of People Die Every Day in Lebanon
Meanwhile, Israeli strikes against Hezbollah militants continue across Lebanon, while the group, in turn, does not ease up on attacks on Israel.
UN humanitarian organizations in Lebanon report that at least 241 people have been killed and 642 injured in Israeli airstrikes in the country in the past week. Since 8 October 2023, nearly 3,300 people have been killed in Lebanon, including 203 children and 644 women, and 14,222 people have been injured.
“In Lebanon, at least one child was killed and 10 injured every day in October 2024 alone,” OCHA said.
The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) calls on the parties “to uphold their obligations under international humanitarian law and protect children.”
The UN peacekeeping mission, which monitors the Blue Line dividing Lebanon and Israel, also reported “numerous violations” since the violence escalated in late September, including direct attacks on peacekeepers.
