The UN Security Council unanimously adopted a resolution extending the mandate of the European Union operation EUFOR Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina for another 12 months.

The resolution was introduced by France, which stressed the importance of the presence of the European Union forces in maintaining peace and stability in the region. The EU forces have been carrying out this mission since 2004, when they replaced the NATO Stabilization Force (SFOR). The resolution also authorizes EUFOR Althea and NATO to take all necessary measures to protect their personnel and to counter threats to peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina, including ensuring air traffic control over the country, as provided for in the Dayton Agreement.
