Speaking at the general debate of the UN General Assembly, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stressed that the world is at a crossroads: local conflicts are escalating, and geopolitical contradictions are growing. At the same time, he said, multipolarity and globalization have become irreversible trends.
China calls for the creation of a sustainable security architecture and inclusive economic globalization that can resist protectionism and unilateralism.
Diplomatic Solutions
Wang Yi stressed the importance of finding a peaceful solution to the conflict in Ukraine. China will participate in diplomatic efforts and insist on negotiations as the only path to peace. The Chinese Foreign Minister noted that this conflict is far from over and that it is important to avoid escalation and refrain from “adding fuel to the fire.”
He also noted that China will continue to support the “just cause of the Palestinian people,” and the long-standing conflict in this region requires an immediate solution.
“The slightest chance of peace deserves any effort,” the minister said.
Wang Yi also recalled that in 1971 the General Assembly adopted a resolution that restored all legal rights of the People’s Republic of China in the UN, excluding Taiwan from international organizations.
“Taiwan is an inalienable part of China’s territory,” he stressed.
Respect for Rights and Development
In addition, in his speech, Wang Yi emphasized China’s position that every nation has the right to independently choose its own path of development. He said that no country should impose its will on other countries under the pretext of protecting human rights or interfere in their internal affairs.
“We must respect the diversity of civilizations and overcome alienation through communication,” the Chinese representative said.
The country adheres to the principle of protecting human rights based on national conditions and is ready to continue interacting with relevant UN bodies, the minister said.
He also expressed China’s commitment to the concept of green development and work to implement global environmental initiatives such as the Paris Agreement.
Wang Yi stressed that China will continue to actively participate in reforming the UN system to ensure a fair world order, and advocated mutual respect for the sovereignty of countries.
