The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution demanding that Israel withdraw its forces from the occupied Palestinian territories.

124 delegations voted for the resolution, proposed by the State of Palestine in co-authorship with dozens of other countries. 43 countries abstained, and 14 voted against.

Referring to the Advisory Opinion of the International Court of Justice on the Legal Consequences of Israeli Policies and Practices in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, the resolution demands that Israel “put an immediate end to its illegal presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory ” The document also specifies the deadline: “no later than 12 months after the adoption of this resolution.”

It was adopted on Wednesday during the 10th special session of the UN General Assembly on the Middle East conflict. The session, we recall, resumed its work on Tuesday, September 17.
