High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt. UN High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina: Srebrenica genocide denial has become a political tool Peace and Security

Bosnia and Herzegovina must restore stability and expand and accelerate reforms. High Representative for Bosnia and Herzegovina Christian Schmidt stated this on Wednesday, speaking to members of the Security Council.

Speaking of the Dayton Peace Agreement, Schmidt confirmed that it “protects the sovereignty, integrity and internal structure of Bosnia and Herzegovina.”

“The peace agreement is the basis of the achievements that laid the foundation for Bosnia and Herzegovina’s accession to the EU,” he added.

The High Representative noted that “The Dayton Path of Reform and the EU” complement each other.

Schmidt also noted: genocide was committed in Srebrenica in July 1995, which “was legally established by the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia in 2004 and International Court of Justice in 2007.” According to him, genocide denial has become a political tool.

Denis Becirovic, Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina, also addressed the Council.

“It will be important for humanity that the UN General Assembly adopt a resolution to reflect and commemorate the 1995 genocide in Srebrenica,” he said.

“This resolution is of great importance in spreading the truth and awareness of the genocide committed against the Bosnians. This is an important civilizational step forward in the fight for truth and justice,” concluded Becirovic.
