Class at the IT center in Chorshanbe. How an IT center changed the lives of young people in a small town in southern Uzbekistan Culture and education
In the small town of Charshanbe, located in the south of Uzbekistan, in the Shakhrisabz region, a couple of young guys, Saidmahmud and Jahongir, decided to start a technological revolution. They shared a common passion for information technology and a desire to transform life in their city.
Saidmahmud and Jahongir headed the IT center in Chorshanbe. There, local youth are trained in technology and innovation. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) recognized the center’s potential and supported the idea of Saidmahmud and Jahongir.
With the assistance of UNDP, the project flourished. The center has welcomed more than 120 students seeking to acquire digital skills.

Young people, driven by a desire to empower the youth of Chorshanbe, worked hard to provide students with access to the latest technology. Realizing that much of the knowledge needed to be a successful IT professional is available in English, they also developed the English for IT course, which is very popular among students.
Among the bright students who were attracted to the information technology center was Marjona, an 18-year-old girl with a keen interest in computer engineering and artificial intelligence.
April 25 is International Girls in ICT Day. Its purpose is to raise awareness of the need to attract women into the information and communication technology sector.
In the new IT center, Chorshanbe youth can gain knowledge in the field of information technology, as well as learn English.
At the IT center, Marjona found a community of like-minded people and was able to gain knowledge that would otherwise have been unavailable to her.
Technology plays an important role in all types of careers, and learning technical skills at a young age helps girls gain economic independence, the UN says.
Now Marjona dreams of a future in which Uzbekistan will be among the most technologically advanced countries in the world.
Her dreams echo those of her mentors, Saidmahmud and Jahongir, who see Chorshanbe’s potential to become a center of innovation and progress in Uzbekistan.
