UN Humanitarian Coordinator in Ukraine Denise Brown said she was shocked by the attack on a multi-storey residential building in the city of Krivoy Rog in the Dnipropetrovsk region. There are dead and wounded among civilians, and some of the building’s residents are trapped under rubble.
“Among the victims are dozens of civilians, including children. Humanitarian organizations are already on the ground providing emergency assistance,” Brown said.
She noted that at the time of the attack, which happened in the evening, many families had gathered at home to have dinner and spend the evening with their relatives, but their house was destroyed , and their loved ones suffered.
“Across Ukraine and in the front-line regions, there is a series of attacks causing damage to homes and civilian infrastructure and leading to the death and injury of civilians who simply lived their lives,” Brown said.
Russia’s war against Ukraine has caused significant damage to the Ukrainian civilian population, the humanitarian coordinator emphasized. International humanitarian law obliges the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, she recalled.
