UN Secretary-General António Guterres “strongly condemned” the launch of a long-range ballistic missile by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK). This is stated in a statement by his press service.
“The DPRK’s continued missile launches using ballistic missile technology are a clear violation of the relevant Security Council resolutions,” the document says.
The Secretary-General remains concerned about the situation on the Korean Peninsula. He has consistently called for de-escalation, full implementation of relevant Security Council resolutions, the creation of an atmosphere conducive to dialogue, and the resumption of negotiations.
“Diplomatic engagement remains the only path to sustainable peace and the complete and verifiable denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula,” the statement emphasized.
