Interview | Gaza hospitals again turned into huge trauma departments

Of the 36 hospitals, Gaza now partially operate no more than 17. Interview | Gaza hospitals again turned into huge trauma departments Humanitarian assistance In recent days, a lot of reports on the rapid deterioration of the humanitarian situation have come from the gas sector – even UN employees lose consciousness from exhaustion and hunger. Dr. Rick Pypercorn, representing the World Health Organization (WHO) in the occupied Palestinian territories, told about this and much more in an interview with the UN news service. 62 ~ The UN news service: A WHO this night published an application for an attack on the premises of the organization in Deir El-Balach, where WHO employees and their family live. What is currently known about this incident ? ~ 60 > 62 : in deir-el-Balach The escalation of hostilities, [the Israeli command] was given an order to evacuate. I want to emphasize that the coordinates of all UN facilities, including the WHO and NGO premises, are known to the Israeli authorities. This information is regularly updated. The house where the local employees lived, on July 21, was attacked three times. It should be noted that employees and their families, including children, [and before that incident] have already been injured due to air strikes, shooting and significant destruction. Then the Israeli military entered the territory of the complex, forcing women and children to walk towards al-Mavashi in an active armed conflict. Men and members of their families were connected, undressed and interrogated under the muzzle of a machine gun. Two WHO employees and two family members were detained. Three later were released, one still remains in conclusion. ~ 60 > UN news service: this is the first case when WHO employees were detained by Israeli by the authorities ?~ 60 > Dr. Rick Pypercorn : No, we already had a case of a specialist in the combat of polyiomelitis, a team member WHO, working under a temporary contract. He was detained for a significant period of time, but now he was already released. ~ 60 > we call for the immediate release of the detainees and the protection of all our employees and objects. I want to once again emphasize the need for active protection of civilians and medical institutions, as well as ensuring unhindered delivery of humanitarian assistance. UN news service: you also mentioned that the main WHO warehouse in Deir El Balach was attacked in the center of Gaza. What is the damage ?~ 60 > 62 ~ rick peercorn 62 > 62 > 62 > 62 > 62 > 62 > 62 ~: We have three warehouses there. The main warehouse was attacked the day before yesterday, an explosion and a fire occurred. It kept significant reserves of medical supplies, including materials for the treatment of injuries, cancer drugs and other important medicines. We believe that all reserves in this warehouse are lost irrevocably. This is a huge blow to the already destroyed healthcare system, as well as WHO. Fortunately, we have two more warehouses: one in the neighborhood, the other in the city of Gaza. The coordinates of these objects are known to [the Israeli command] and were recently updated. I want to confirm again: we will remain in Deir El-Balach, we will continue the operations and expand our activities. ~ 60 > Service of the UN news: 88 percent of the gases are covered by evacuation orders or military operations. How long can you still work in the gas in these conditions ? 60 ~/p >~ 60 > rick Pipacorn: 62 > 62 > 62 > 62 > 62This is a very difficult question. Deir El Balah is one of the main humanitarian centers, where many UN and NGO partners are located, as well as warehouses. But this is not the only place where we have a warehouse and an office. The fighting will not continue endlessly. In my opinion, they should stop immediately. We urge the member states and donors to urgently expand the support of WHO so that we can replenish other warehouses. So far this is possible, we will do our best to continue work, including support for ambulance brigades. ~ 60 > UN news service: Tell us about ambulances. They are coordinated by WHO, and these are international doctors and experts working in gas on a rotational basis. Is it possible to deliver them to the sector without any problems, given that we hear about the refusals to issue a viscue ?~ 60 > Dr. Rick Pyercorn : Yes, this is a problem. In recent months, we see that some brigades and their members are denied the entrance. WHO constantly raises this question before the Israeli authorities, as we need specialized medical teams. We support not only international, but also local brigades that specialize in surgery, gynecology, obstetrics, mental health and rehabilitation. But it must be remembered that out of 36 hospitals in gas are now functioning only 16–18. ~ 60 > UN news service: you know the situation in the gas and in the occupied Palestinian territories. We receive alarming reports that even the UN employees lose consciousness from hunger, a lack of pure water, and the situation is becoming more and more difficult. What do your colleagues say ?~ 60 > rick peercorn 62 > 62 > 62 > 62 > 62 > 62 > 62 > 62 > 62 > 62 > 62 > 62 ~ 62: When I was there two to three weeks ago, I heard about a sharp increase in the number of injuries and deaths in the so -called safe food distribution points. The two main hospitals, the Nasser in the south and the “chiff” in the north, again turned into huge trauma departments. We reported this, provided facts and called for stopping [violence]. ~ 60 > as for the UN and other humanitarian organizations: yes, of course, food supplies in gas are scarce and not diverse, there were problems with water. But UN employees are trying to replenish the minimum reserves. I also want to emphasize that many employees are deeply injured, especially local. They lost families, friends, at home … ~ 60 > three weeks ago I reported the mass victims that we saw throughout the gas, and this continues, as the past Sunday showed. It could be prevented. I saw people with shot heads, necks, stomachs, knees – these are the most terrible injuries. ~ 60 > what needs to be done first is to fill the market with food so that prices fall and mass suffering stops. It is also necessary to provide people with access to water and sanitary means. For WHO and its partners, a regular and stable influx of medicines and medical supplies is important, as well as regular fuel supply, without which surgical surgery is impossible. & Amp; nbsp; and, finally, a ceasefire, which has long matured and could change everything for the best.
