UN calls for interfaith dialogue and understanding. Learning to live together: UN celebrates World Interfaith Harmony Week Culture and Education
The first week of February marks the World Interfaith Harmony Week at the UN. It is aimed at strengthening mutual understanding between different religions and faiths. The UN General Assembly adopted a corresponding resolution in 2010.
During this week, states and religious communities around the world are called upon to spread the ideas of interfaith harmony. Churches, mosques, synagogues, temples and other houses of worship host events aimed at supporting the ideas of love for all people, regardless of their beliefs and faith.
In the context of globalization and instability, when the world faces numerous challenges such as inequality, violence and alienation, it is especially important to encourage dialogue and mutual understanding between cultures, the UN believes.
The organization emphasizes that peace is not just the absence of war, but active coexistence and cooperation based on respect for human rights and cultural diversity.
The UN calls on all inhabitants of the planet to learn to live together despite differences and build a lasting peace based on justice and mutual understanding.
