Ruins in southern Lebanon. UN calls for additional $371.4 million in aid to Lebanon Humanitarian aid

The UN and the Lebanese government on Tuesday called for an additional $371.4 million to provide emergency humanitarian aid in the country between January and March 2025.

The initial emergency appeal was launched in October 2024 to support the most affected populations, including Lebanese themselves, Syrian and Palestinian refugees, and migrants. This appeal complements the Lebanon Response Plan, which remains the main instrument for implementing humanitarian efforts in the country.

Post-conflict recovery

The conflict, which began in October 2023 and escalated over a six-week period from late September to early November 2024, has left more than 4,000 people dead, 16,000 injured, and more than a million displaced from their homes. Hundreds of thousands of people are still unable to return to their homes due to severe damage to their homes and infrastructure, as well as a lack of basic amenities.

Overcoming the Impact of the Crisis

The additional appeal will provide food aid, winter support for Lebanon, emergency repairs to buildings, and protection of civilians. It will also address issues with health care, access to water, and education infrastructure.

The Lebanese government and humanitarian organizations are calling on the international community to increase their support for efforts to overcome the impact of the conflict. Resources and sustainable funding are needed to stabilize the situation, deliver aid to those in need, and rebuild the country from one of the most difficult periods in modern history.
