The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported on Tuesday that humanitarian organizations continue to provide emergency assistance to people affected by a series of strikes in Ukraine over the weekend.
Dead and injured
It is reported, in particular, that Kharkov suffered particularly, having been shelled on August 30 and September 1. According to local authorities, six people were killed and 150 were injured, including 30 children.
Damage to civilian infrastructure
UN humanitarian partners note extensive damage to civilian infrastructure – more than 90 residential buildings, a shopping center and sports facilities, as well as two educational facilities, were damaged in the strikes.
UN condemns attacks on residential areas
UN Humanitarian Coordinator Matthias Schmale condemned repeated attacks on residential areas, which have led to civilian casualties.
Emergency assistance in Kharkiv
At present, the victims in Kharkiv are receiving medical and psychosocial support. In addition, over the past two days, more than ten non-governmental organizations have delivered necessary repair materials to the city and helped to close more than 400 broken windows. UN partners have also begun the process of registering victims for financial assistance.
Shelling in Other Areas of Ukraine
Over the past two days, civilians in other areas of Ukraine, including Sumy, Donetsk, Kyiv, Dnipro and Zaporizhia regions, have also suffered as a result of deadly strikes.
Strike on Poltava
UN partners in Ukraine reported on Tuesday that the city of Poltava, located in central Ukraine, has been subjected to a new large-scale attack. There are reports of civilians killed and wounded.
